Inspired by a 3 year old

I have a hand full of people who have inspired me in my life and in my career. I could name many, but there is one, ONE, that really inspires me. Her name is Sofia. What makes Sofia especial is the light in her eyes,  the confidence in her movements, the strength in her soul.

I am so impressed by how well she adapts to all situations despite all the challenges and changes she has experienced in her life. She adjusts easy to everything, finding ways to play and see the positive in everything. In her 3 years of life, she has lived in 2 different continents and speaks 3 languages. Sofia makes friends easily, with her charm, getting them, adults and kids, to follow her. Her energy and happiness are contagious.

Sofia’s life has not been simple, from growing without the steady presence of a father, and with adults that make her suffer or even abused her. But Sofia resilience makes her so strong and brave. Her kindness is so profound, always wanting to help, to those she knows or those she sees need help, opening a door to a stroller mom or looking for that lost toy from another kid.

Sofia is not only resilient but wild. She is curious and loves exploring. She doesn’t want to be told all she cannot do. The only way for her to blossom is to feel encouraged. She is pragmatic and moves on quickly from problems to find happiness again. Couldn’t we be more like that?

It does not matter where we are, being together is the best in life. I cherish every moment I can spend with her. Sofia is my daughter. She has changed me and makes me grow every day. Being a mother is the hardest job I have ever done and will do.

We are so busy in our lives that we frequently forget the important things, our little ones, and to learn from them. They can teach us even more than we can teach them. Let’s not allow stress or work or worries to take the time for who needs us the most: our children.
